One Simple Trick that Makes ANY Dessert Healthier!

Nutrition, Overeating

One simple trick that makes any dessert healthier

Some desserts, like Espresso Dark Chocolate Torte, are not meant to be healthy. Some desserts are simply not meant to be lightened up, reduced in sugar, or have whole wheat flour substituted for the all-purpose.

However, there IS still a way to make these desserts healthier.

Now, without any further ado, I’d like to present to you my neat little trick to make any dessert healthier….

Eat less

That’s it, that’s all, folks!

There are a couple of reasons why I recommend this trick:

a) If you try to make a dessert healthier, then you will “feel good” about it and be more generous with your serving sizes. Or more likely to go back for seconds because, you know, the dessert is now healthy with dates instead of sugar as a sweetener. The perception of healthy can cause you to eat more total calories.

b) When you focus on quality over quantity, you will slow down your eating and enjoy your food more! If you only serve yourself a small portion, you won’t want to scarf it down without fully registering how it tastes!

Stories about balance and moderation don’t make headlines but these two principles truly are the cornerstone of a healthy diet. So, go ahead, enjoy your dessert! But just take a small piece 🙂

If you’re rolling your eyes at me at this point and thinking eating less is easier said than done, don’t worry, I understand! I’ve been there. I’ve desperately wanted to just eat less but found my will power  too weak. But then, through my university nutrition studies and on the job learning as a Dietitian, I discovered having enough will power wasn’t the problem. I needed to change my attitude towards food, my mealtime habits, and my environment. Since doing that, I can confidently eat the amount of food that is just perfect for me! And I’ve taken all that I’ve learned and turned it into a 10 week program. A new session is starting soon. Join me and so many others in being able to say “I Quit Overeating!”
