Reap the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric spice in this super simple turmeric salad dressing! It’s a savoury vegan dressing full of umami flavour.
I’m experiencing a major crush on salads right now! In winter I usually switch to going nuts on soups, but this year salads are making a major appearance at our table!
It may be because salads are a good reminder of summer… which I’ve desperately needed with this -40C cold snap Winnipeg’s been going through! The headlines over Christmas highlighted the fact that it was colder in Winnipeg than both the North Pole and Mars. Yup, somehow we managed to be colder than a place that is 225 million kilometers further away from the sun than we are!
Why oh why do I live in a place that’s colder than Mars?
I guess it’s because our families and friends live here too and we just love them too darn much to leave.
Therefore… salads to the rescue!
I mean: just look at this gorgeous salad: how can you get sad about winter when you’re eating something so colourful and vibrant?
While turmeric has a very strong yellow colour, it’s actually quite a mild tasting spice. Did you know that turmeric is what gives “regular” mustard its vibrant yellow colour? That’s why other mustards, like dijon mustard, are more brown; mustard seeds aren’t actually very yellow!
This dressing would taste great with nearly any veggie, but we’ve been enjoying it with this DIY salad mix, shredded carrots, broccoli, snap peas… and the piece de resistance: roasted PEANUTS! I always try to make my salads meal-worthy, so adding a source of protein, like roasted peanuts, is key for keeping us full from one meal to the next.
why this savoury turmeric salad dressing is a smart choice
Turmeric is gaining credibility and popularity as an anti-inflammatory agent. Low grade inflammation, caused by unmanaged stress, unbalanced diet, lack of exercise, pollution, or excess weight, overtime will cause damage to the body. To counteract this attack on our bodies, we can increase our activity, learn how to face life’s stressors, and YES, eat anti-inflammatory foods!
